• Responsible for assessing and addressing enterprise-wide legal and compliance risks, along with related operational risks and implementing plans and strategies to minimize business losses. Documents and ensures communication of key risks, prepares documents and reports.


• Identify and monitor emerging issues, trends, vulnerabilities and ongoing developments in the organization’s legal and compliance and operational risk areas

• Maintain a level of expertise in corporate governance, regulatory compliance and related operational risk areas of focus, including a strong understanding of current industry trends and practices, effective risk measurement and management practices and emerging concerns

• Monitor and evaluate developments impacting the organization’s legal/compliance and related operational risk profiles through in-depth analysis of internal risk management reports and regular interaction with management

• Develop a thorough understanding of current industry trends, effective risk management practices and emerging market concerns

• Analyze and report on key legal/compliance and related operational risk metrics that support an overall assessment of legal and compliance risk and risk management practices

• Communicate effectively with staff and management on topics related to legal/compliance and related operational risk through periodic and ad hoc written and oral briefings

• Assess and identify potential key risks and mitigating factors to the business operations and organization

• Devise systems and processes to monitor validity of risk modeling outputs

• Produce reports or presentations that outline findings, explain risk positions or recommend changes

• Conduct statistical analyses to quantify risk using statistical analysis software or econometric models

• Communicate with management on risk exposure, market scenarios or values-at-risk calculations

• Analyze new legislation to determine impact on risk exposure

• Evaluate applicable laws and regulations to determine impact on organizational activities

• Develop, implement or provide risk assessment models or methodologies

• Gather risk-related data from internal or external resources

• Gather organizational performance information


• Assist in the development of contingency plans to deal with emergencies

• Work closely with other legal and compliance and operational risk management team members


Minimum Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, accounting or related field or equivalent work experience

• Four or more years of direct or comparable experience with a focus in risk specialty areas

• Comprehensive knowledge of legal and compliance risks, and related operational risks, and prudent practices for managing those risks

• Experience evaluating risk and risk management practices

• Demonstrated strong performance in core technical and behavioral competencies including Confidence, Conceptual Thinking, Good Judgment, Teamwork and Flexibility

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Familiarity with systems and general business operations

• Investigation and interview skills

• Thorough understanding of ethics, regulations and laws

• Ability to analyze and manage risk management issues by identifying, measuring and making decisions on operational or enterprise risks for the organization

Work Environment:

• Typically works in a designated location or office
